Joburg Principal Summoned

Parktown Boys High School's headmaster and deputy headmaster face disciplinary action for their role in a controversial initiation ceremony.

It is alleged several Grade 11 pupils were humiliated and hurt during the event last year. Pene Kimber came forward, demanding action after her 17-year-old son was stripped naked and assaulted with golf clubs and cricket bats.
The officials were then asked to explain their role in the initiation process.

Kimber said she was relieved that action has finally been taken against the school's headmaster and deputy.
"Finally after 13 months the Education Department has finally done something about it. Initiation is against the Initiation Act and the School Act," said Kimber.
The Gauteng Education Department's Charles Phahlane said in light of their response, it has decided to take action.

"The charge they are facing is failure to comply with regulation prohibiting initiation in schools. This is an internal disciplinary matter and they will be charged by the department," said Phahlane.
